During the hot days of summer, try easy milkshake recipes made with fruit and ice cream. Ready in a flash, these tasty and nutritious treats will please kids and adults alike, either for dessert or as a snack.

In a blender, combine fruit, milk, vanilla extract and other flavourings (as called for); purée until smooth. Add ice cream and purée until blended. Pour into chilled glasses; serve immediately with a thick straw or a spoon.

Tips

Plan ahead so the kids can make these shakes as an after school snack. Buy fresh fruit when it’s in season or on special and freeze it in a single layer on a baking sheet or buy bags of frozen fruit. Divide the frozen fruit into recipe-size portions in freezer bags and store in the freezer ready to grab quickly.
