French Toasts Filled with Cream Cheese

Ingredients

  • 12 slices milk bread
  • 8 oz (250 g) Canadian Strawberry Cream Cheese*
  • 6 eggs
  • 3/4 cup (180 mL) Milk
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
  • Butter
  • Icing sugar
  • 2 cups (500 mL) mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • Maple syrup

Preparation

Remove crust from bread, optional. Spread Canadian Cream Cheese evenly on half the bread slices; top with remaining slices.

Whip together eggs, milk and vanilla and pour mixture into a shallow dish. Dip each sandwich in egg mixture, turning it over to cover evenly.

Heat a bit of butter in a non-stick frying pan and fry sandwiches at medium-low heat for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown on both sides. Add a bit of butter to the frying pan as needed.

Sprinkle with icing sugar, cut and serve with mixed berries and maple syrup.

Tips

* For a change of taste use Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Cream Cheese and serve with sauteed apple slices.
