Apple & Caramel Dessert Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of white vanilla cake bread shaped
  • 4 oz (120 g) Canadian Gouda sliced
  • 4 apples peeled and sectioned
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) 35 % cream

Preparation

Heat skillet over high heat and melt 3 tbsp (45 mL) of butter. Stir in apple pieces until lightly golden and cook 5 minutes. Remove apples and set aside.

Put skillet back over medium-high heat. Add sugar and let it melt until it turns into caramel. Add cream and simmer 3-4 minutes, stirring. Mix apple pieces with caramel sauce and keep warm.

Evenly distribute cheese on four slices of cake. Top with remaining four.

In other skillet, melt remaining tbsp of butter (15 mL) over medium heat and brown cake sandwiches 4-5 minutes on each side.Set sandwiches in plates, drizzle with caramel sauce and top with apples.

Tips

You substitute vanilla cake for angel food cake.
