  • Cooked, chopped, broccoli and cauliflower
  • Cooked peas and carrots
  • Meat/Fish
  • Cut-up, cooked chicken or turkey
  • Cut-up, cooked ham or roast pork
  • Cooked salmon whitefish or shrimp
  • Canadian Cheese
  • Shredded Swiss or Monterey Jack
  • Herb & Garlic or Roasted Garlic
  • Cream Cheese
  • Go-alongs
  • Hot buttered toast or English muffins
  • Hot baked potatoes
  • Hot rice or noodles

Preparation

Melt 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter in large saucepan. Cook 1 chopped onion, 6 to 8 sliced mushrooms and 1 minced garlic clove until tender.

Remove pan from heat and blend in 3 tbsp (45 mL) flour, then 2 cups (500 mL) milk. Cook and stir until mixture boils.

Remove pan from heat and add 2 cups (500 mL) cooked vegetables, 2 cups (500 mL) cooked meat/fish and 2 handfuls of cheese. Stir until cheese melts. Reheat if necessary.

Spoon sauce over Go-alongs and top with more cheese.
