Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter
  • 3/4 cup (180 mL) sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (180 mL) Milk
  • Streusel Topping
  • 1/3 cup (80 mL) brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) walnuts
  • pecans
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 3 apples

Preparation

Sift flour with baking powder. Reserve.

Cream butter until light. Beat in sugar gradually. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Stir in flour mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.

Combine brown sugar with nuts and cinnamon.

Spread half the batter in a buttered 8 inch (20 cm) square baking dish. Arrange half the apples slices on top. Sprinkle with half the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture. Spread with remaining batter. Arrange remaining apple slices in rows on top of cake. Sprinkle with remaining streusel mixture.

Bake in a preheated 350 °F (180 °C) oven for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve from the pan.
