The Exotic Cheeseburger and the Original Canadian Cheeseburger

What You Need


The Exotic Cheeseburger:
1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef
1 egg
5 oz (150 g) crumbled Canadian Feta cheese
1 tsp (5 ml) dried oregano leaves, crushed
1 clove garlic, minced
2 pita bread rounds, halved
Leaf lettuce and sliced tomatoes
Cucumber Tzatziki

The Original Canadian Cheeseburger:
1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef
1 egg
1 tbsp (15 ml) each Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
4 oz (125 g) sliced Canadian Cheddar or
Canadian Oka cheese
Grilled baguette slicesGrilled baguette slices
Caramelized Onions

Instructions

The Exotic Cheeseburger:
Combine beef, egg, Canadian Feta cheese, oregano and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture into 4 round patties. Barbecue until well cooked.

Place patties in pita bread pockets lined with lettuce and tomatoes. Serve with Cucumber Tzatziki.

Cucumber Tzatziki:
Combine 1 cup (250 mL) plain yogurt, 1 cup (250 mL) shredded English cucumber (squeezed dry), 2 cloves minced garlic, and 1/2 tsp (2 mL) sugar. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Makes 1 cup (250 mL).
This sauce can be kept in the fridge for a week

The Original Canadian Cheeseburger:
Combine beef, egg, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture into 4 slightly elongated patties. Barbecue until well cooked.

Top with Canadian Cheddar cheese. Cook until cheese melts thoroughly. Serve on baguette with Caramelized Onions.

Caramelized Onions:
Cook and stir 1 large red onion, cut into thin wedges, in 2 tbsp (30 mL) butter until tender, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low. Sprinkle with 1 tsp (5 mL) sugar. Cook until golden, about 20 minutes longer. Stir occasionally.

Makes 2/3 cup (150 mL).
