Ingredients

  • The Exotic Cheeseburger
  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 5 oz (150 g) crumbled Canadian Feta cheese
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) dried oregano leaves crushed
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 pita bread rounds halved
  • Leaf lettuce and sliced tomatoes
  • Cucumber Tzatziki
  • Cucumber Tzatziki
  • 1 cup (250 mL) plain yourt
  • 1 cup (250 mL) shredded English cucumber squeezed dry
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 5 tsp (2 mL) sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) each Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 4 oz (125 g) sliced Canadian Cheddar
  • Grilled baguette slicesGrilled baguette slices

  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) butter
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) sugar

Preparation

The Exotic Cheeseburger:

Combine beef, egg, Canadian Feta cheese, oregano and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 4 round patties. Barbecue until well cooked. Place patties in pita bread pockets lined with lettuce and tomatoes. Serve with Cucumber Tzatziki.

Cucumber Tzatziki:

Combine yogurt and all the ingredients. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Makes 1 cup (250 mL).This sauce can be kept in the fridge for a week

The Original Canadian Cheeseburger:

Combine beef, egg, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 4 slightly elongated patties. Barbecue until well cooked.

Top with Canadian Cheddar cheese. Cook until cheese melts thoroughly. Serve on baguette with Caramelized Onions.

Caramelized Onions:

Cook and stir onion in butter until tender, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low. Sprinkle with sugar. Cook until golden, about 20 minutes longer. Stir occasionally.

Makes 2/3 cup (160 mL).
