Give children a serving of milk,
the easy way
Elementary school aged children need between 2 to 4 servings of Milk and Alternatives every day. But as any busy parent knows, it’s hard enough getting them to school in the morning. We don’t always think to include a serving of milk or a milk product in their lunch bags.
Why milk?
Milk is packed with 16 essential nutrients, including calcium for healthy teeth and niacin for growth and development. It also contains protein and carbohydrates that provide energy to help keep children moving!
Why milk in school?
Children who are enrolled in the Elementary School Milk Program (ESMP) get a carton of milk during the school day. It’s an easy way to make sure they get another serving of what they need to stay healthy, alert and ready to learn. More than 70% of elementary schools in Ontario are registered with the ESMP, including nearly two-thirds of the schools that began offering full-day kindergarten as of September 2010.
