Ready-to-eat options from the grocery store can be real time savers - and you don’t have to give up nutrition if you know how to purchase and assemble wisely, keeping in mind Canada's Food Guide recommendations. Here are some fast, nutritious meal ideas that are pure convenience.

  • Start with Packaged Fresh Cheese Tortellini cover with tomato sauce, serve with pre-washed mixed greens. Enjoy a yogurt sprinkled with pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries for dessert.
  • Start with Frozen Souvlaki Skewers. Heat up leftover brown rice, serve with tomato slices, top with olives, sliced onions and Feta. Pre-cut fruit chunks dipped in yogurt and honey for dessert.
  • Start with Frozen Asian Vegetables. Just stir-fry, then add tofu or cooked shrimp until heated. Serve with whole-grain bread and a glass of milk.
  • Start with Barbequed Rotisserie Chicken. Microwave sweet potatoes, make a “slaw” with pre-shredded broccoli drizzled with a little salad dressing and add a whole wheat roll. Enjoy vanilla pudding for dessert.
  • Start with Marinated Fish Fillets. Quick-fry in a non-stick pan - no oil required. Serve on top of bagged salad tossed with leftover chopped vegetables, and dressed with a little olive oil, lemon juice and capers. Cheese, grapes and whole-grain toast-points for dessert.
