30 Minutes a Day to Make Yourself Healthy
Exercise is key to making you as healthy as possible – and getting some every day is a lot easier than you might think.
Health Canada recommends 30 minutes of moderately intense physical activity a day or 60 minutes of low-intensity activity. As the time is cumulative, you can move for 30 minutes in a row, or opt for two 15-minute sessions, or even three 10-minute sessions. You choose what's most convenient for you.
Want some more good news? You don't need to go to the gym! Everything you do in your daily life counts, big or small: climbing stairs, walking to take care of errands, playing with the kids, gardening, shovelling, etc.
To get the same health benefits while improving your cardiovascular health, choose more intense activities like jogging, swimming or cross-country skiing. The goal: at least 30 minutes three times a week.
In addition to aerobic activity, it is also recommended that you do 2-4 resistance and 4-7 flexibility exercises a week, to maintain good muscle mass as well as greater strength and endurance. On your mark? Get set? Find the activity that fits you best!
