Veal & Sun-Dried Tomato Burgers with Havarti

Preparation

What You Need

1 lb (450 g) lean ground veal
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped, well drained sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil
1/4 cup (60 ml) tomato sauce
2 tbsp (30 ml) soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp (30 ml) chopped basil or
coriander
5 oz (150 g) Canadian Havarti with tomato & basil (or jalapeños), cut into 5 slices
5 hamburger buns, split, toasted
1/4 cup (60 ml) hot sauce
3 tbsp (45 ml) ketchup
5 slices lettuce leaf

Instructions

Combine veal, onion, sun-dried tomatoes, tomato sauce, soy sauce, garlic and basil in a large bowl and mix well. Shape mixture into five patties 1/2-inch (12 mm) thick.

Place patties on preheated grill of the BBQ. Cook with lid closed over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until no pink remains, turning once halfway through. Top each patty with 1 slice of Canadian Havarti during the last minute of grilling.

Combine hot sauce and ketchup in a small bowl. Place patties on lettuce-lined buns. Serve with hot sauce mixture.


Tips

Variation:
Replace veal with lean ground turkey and serve in pita pockets warmed on the grill.

For a change of taste, use Canadian Monterey Jack, Gouda or Brie.
