We can’t make life less hectic. But we can offer you ways to make your life easier and more enjoyable for you and your kids.
SOS Summer Nutrients
Summer and the great outdoors are synonymous with increased physical activity and a greater need for well-balanced meals.
Being on vacation doesn’t mean forgoing your family’s usual healthy habits! And because nutrition is so important, here are a few helpful reminders from our experts and renowned specialists on healthy eating and lifestyles.
Myth: we eat better in summer than in winter
While we may eat more fresh fruits and vegetables during the summer, we tend to eat fewer nutritious high-protein foods and, as a consequence, miss out on important nutrients. Find yourself with less appetite in the heat? Try having smaller meals and eating more often, and always aim for meals with food from all four food groups. For those of you hungry for inspiration, here are a few easy, breezy summer ways to ensure proper protein intake levels:
- Enjoy a nice, tall iced latte with lots of milk
- Quick-grill Canadian Brie or Canadian Camembert rounds, double-wrapped in foil, on the BBQ for an unctuous cheese dip for your veggies
- Sink popsicle sticks into fresh-cheese cups and freeze for a refreshing instant snack
- Smoothies! Blenderize some of your favourite fresh fruit and a few ice cubes together with yogurt, then thin with milk
- Stir up instant vanilla milk-based pudding with fresh grapes and toasted almonds
