Family & Life

We can’t make life less hectic. But we can offer you ways to make your life easier and more enjoyable for you and your kids.

Choices of Champions

Sure, sports and physical activity are good for us, but let’s face it – it’s the fun that keeps us going! Here are fun facts on how to have more fun longer!

Power Booster

Small, mostly-carb snacks munched a bit before game time can really power you up! The list below includes some super sports snacks. BUT, two of them could really bring you down! Match the pairs and see.

1. Granola Bar A. Carbs with protein for staying power.
2. Fig Cookies B. Good carbs with a bit of oxygen-boosting iron.
3. Fries and gravy C. Too much sugar – you get a quick burst and a fast.
4. Drinkable yogurt D. Too much fat – hard to digest and will slow you down.
5. Chocolate bar E. Quick carbs – plain ones make a good vending machine zone.

Sportscasters

Sometimes, long waits during events or between games are inevitable. Sometimes, the game itself can seem to drag on for youngsters in the bleachers. A great way to keep younger members of the party involved and active is to play Sportscasters. The idea is simple: to describe the action as if you were a team of big-time sportscasters offering play-by-play description of the action and colour commentary during breaks. Especially entertaining when the family also has a camcorder to catch the event-and all the fun! Of course, no ‘professional sportscast’ is ever complete without an in-depth, post-game interview with your favourite participant and his or her loyal fans, forever digitized and saved for future reference. A great way to create and share family memories for years to come.

Top Banana

For a super post-activity snack, whirl in a blender until smooth: 1 cup (250 ml) of icy cold milk, 1 ripe banana and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) peanut butter.

Cool ideas: Make it with chocolate milk. Or for a slushie smoothie, use frozen banana chunks - YUM!

Pack a Snack

Need a quick boost before getting active? Here are some smart snacks to toss in your sports bag. Add an ice pack for things that need to be kept cool.

  • Dry cereal
  • Trail mix
  • Dried fruit (e.g., apricots)
  • Fruit cups
  • Cereal bars
  • Graham crackers
  • Yogurt
  • Milk
  • Cheese & cracker packets
  • Fresh fruit
  • Bagels
